Tina Bennett
Tina studied Art and Design at University and majored in Fine Art. As a young adult, painting became her primary creative outlet. Photography came to Tina later in life, COVID lockdowns and long walks provided the impedes to express her creativity and explore this art form. After receiving a digital mirrorless camera for Christmas 2022 and completing 'The Art of Photography' course with Ian Kemp in Ballarat, Tina was hooked. Her world opened to new ideas, challenges and inspiration.
Photography
Tina uses both an iPhone and a digital camera across a range of different genres in her photography. However, like her painting, the use of Still Life as a genre in her photography provides the perfect platform to present images showing beauty and joy in the world around her.
Art
Tina has been passionate about art throughout her life, with painting being the primary medium she has explored. She took a break from painting whilst raising children and working full time. Once her children became adults, her focus returned to painting and she completed several classes/workshops/lessons to refine and develop her skills. The challenge of exploration and refinement have driven her more recent journey.
Tina is inspired by different subject matter and loves to experiment and challenge herself with a range of applications and styles. However, still life is the area she is always drawn back to. She loves grouping objects to create a story that becomes a unique capture at a point in time. The use of both acrylic and oils provides a range of different effects, with the richness of oils being her current focus.
Tina is reasonably new to exhibiting since recommencing painting and has now proudly exhibited in Geelong at several Galleries, including Sequel Gallery, Unthether Gallery, Hue and Cry Gallery, Brunswick Street Gallery (Fitzroy) and the Victorian Artist Society (VAS)Melbourne. Tina will also be exhibiting a painting that was chosen as one of twenty-six others for the Unerthed Art Prize at Art to Art Gallery in North Balwyn.
Tina had her first solo exhibition at Sequel Gallery in November 2024 showcasing a series of still-life paintings with a focus on reflections, texture and light. She utilised her photography to achieve this goal.
2025 looks like a big year for Tina as she will also be conducting several workshops through Geelong Creative, sharing her insights in how she approaches still life and reflections.
